There is room to bring the van alongside, room to walk right around the vehicle, and nobody squeezing past a foot from the technician's elbow. If your car is going to sit at a workplace from nine until five anyway, having the glass replaced while it does is the least disruptive version of the whole exercise. You do not drive anywhere, you do not wait anywhere, and the price is the same as if you had.

The one drawback of the open ground out here is that there is nothing to hide behind. Wind crosses these lots unchecked, which matters when a technician is handling a large pane of glass, and rain arrives without the partial shelter that buildings and trees give you closer to downtown. For chips and side glass that is a minor consideration. For a windshield, where fresh urethane has to cure without water on the bond, it is the deciding factor. Since Dunwoodie is a straight eight-minute run down Yonkers Avenue to the shop with no parkway merge, moving indoors is an easy fallback on a bad-weather day, and we will suggest it rather than gambling on the forecast and hoping the bond sets clean.

Some vehicles need static calibration under controlled conditions, which means the shop. We check what yours requires against the VIN when you book, so you know before the appointment rather than after the glass has changed.
An end space or one with an empty bay alongside is ideal, somewhere the van can pull in near the car, and preferably not the most exposed corner of the lot on a windy day.
