Most single-piece replacements take one to two hours once the correct pane is in hand, and the range runs $200 to $500 depending on which window it is. Our bench at 91 Yonkers Avenue is two blocks east of the Square, and common glass is often available the same day.

A car has glass all over it, and downtown proves that more than anywhere else we work. The calls off these blocks are as often a quarter pane cracked by someone dragging a bag past on a narrow sidewalk, a vent window caught by a swinging door, or a back window that met a shopping cart in a lot, as they are windshields. Each of those is its own job with its own part number, and none of them can be solved by grabbing whatever is closest on the shelf.
The first thing we do is work out exactly which piece your car needs. Laminated glass is layered and bonded to the body. Tempered glass is a single hardened pane that shatters into pebbles when it lets go, which is most side and rear windows. We look up the VIN, confirm the specific part, and order it before you come in rather than opening the car up and hoping. Door glass has to match the curve and the regulator channel or it binds on the way down. Rear glass has to line its defroster grid up correctly. Fresh clips, moldings and regulators go in where they are needed, and nothing gets reused.

Downtown is the one part of Yonkers where the shop's own experience actually matters to the job in front of us. Years of tracking down vehicle glass for older cars mean an odd, obsolete or awkward piece is a normal Tuesday rather than a reason to send you away. The cars parked around the Square skew older than the ones out by the parkways, and older cars are exactly the ones carrying vent panes, small fixed quarter lights and back glass specifications that nobody stocks in volume any more. Being two blocks from where those cars live means we can look at the piece with the car in front of us instead of guessing from a phone description, which is usually the difference between a one-visit job and a three-visit one.

Usually yes, though it may take an extra day or two to arrive rather than coming off a shelf in the region. Chasing down an uncommon pane is normal work for this bench. Give us the year, make, model and VIN, and we will find out what genuinely exists and what it costs before you rearrange anything.
It is the small fixed pane that sits between a door and the body, usually behind the rear door or at the corner of the roof line. Some are bonded in rather than sitting in a channel, which is why they need the right part and clean bonding surfaces instead of a generic pane pressed into the gap and sealed around.
