Close-quarters parking accounts for most of what we replace in the village. Angled bays put the front corners of cars near each other, doors swing into neighboring glass, and a shopping bag or a bike handlebar catches a quarter pane. The tree canopy over the residential streets is the second cause, dropping limbs and ice onto parked cars through the winter and leaving sap and grit on the glass in between. The third is the parkway: the Bronx River Parkway's older surface and stone shoulders send up chips at speed, and cars that commute on it collect a bull's-eye or two every winter. Little of it is dramatic, but tempered glass fails completely when it fails, and there is no partial version of that.
Take Midland Avenue or Kimball Avenue west out of the village toward Yonkers, pick up Yonkers Avenue, and follow it to number 91 close to Getty Square. Twelve minutes is normal, a little more at school hours. The Bronx River Parkway to the Cross County is the faster option when the local roads are stacked, though we would rather you kept a cracked windshield off the parkway. There is room to leave the car at the shop while we work. If your driveway is the more convenient option, say so when you book, and the van will do the job on your own gravel.
